Noise Reduction / Dialogue Cleanup Samples
This is a brief clip from "Halcyon," a film about two men in an undersea research station. This original sound take suffered from wireless mike buzz and a very high noise level. In addition, the dialogue sounded a little muffled due to the actor's proximity to the microphone. The restored audio was processed with noise reduction and EQ to get rid of the buzz and background noise plus improve the intelligibility of the dialogue. Ambient sound effects were also added to create the impression of being underwater.
This is a brief clip from "Hick Trek" demonstrating extreme sound restoration techniques. "Hick Trek" was a special case - not only did the original soundtrack have a massive amount of camera noise, the existing sound elements were extracted from the tiny sound stripe on the original Super-8 film master (talk about low fidelity). Still, you can hear a huge difference after the noise reduction was applied.
